Library maintainer rules & guidelines

F4.2 Pin 1 should be located at the top left

Footprints should be oriented such that Pin 1 is located in the upper left corner (IPC-7351).

When the pin cannot be the most top-left pin in the footprint, it should be in the top-left quadrant of the footprint.

Exceptions

Two-terminal footprints and other footprints with all pins in a single line should be aligned with pin 1 on the left side.

Multi-purpose connector footprints should be oriented horizontally, with pin 1 on the left side, for easier comparison and alignment with the matching connector.

Footprints for packages with pin 1 located in the middle of one side (e.g. some PLCC and QFN packages) should have pin 1 aligned to the top side.
